AI in Daily Life – Helpful or Risky?
Technology Applications | 6-8
Duration: 60 minutes
Author: Rabiaa Ezzedine, CTE and Physics Teacher
Students will critically examine the benefits and risks of AI through a real-world case study involving facial recognition errors. After watching a short video, they will work in groups to create a Claim Evidence Reasoning (CER) poster answering the question: “Is AI more helpful or more risky in everyday life?” Groups will research examples from previous lessons and incorporate ethical considerations such as privacy and fairness. A gallery walk will allow students to share and critique each other’s arguments, followed by a whole-class discussion to reflect on how evidence and peer feedback influenced their thinking. This lesson emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and responsible decision-making about emerging technologies.

- How do ethical considerations influence the way we design and use AI?
- What responsibilities do humans have when deploying AI systems?
- How can we evaluate whether an AI output should be trusted or rejected?
